Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes – Home

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes

It seems as if all my posts have been about fall and how excited I am for fall, so it is getting really old, really fast. This is my last post about fall. I promise. After a crazy summer regarding the future of the NFL, we finally have football! And more importantly, this ad.

Now, it is not really the ad that I want to highlight. What I want to highlight is EXACTLY what fall means to me. The obsession itself begins when I was a freshman in college. I was an international student with absolutely zero knowledge of football or why everyone I met was obsessing about the start of the NFL season. (Freshmen for some odd reason continue to obsess about their NFL team more than their own college team, at least for the beginning of the season I have noticed). Anyway, that fall was my introduction to arguably the best sport in the USA and one that I enjoy tremendously.

So what does all this football have to do with home? For me, that first fall away from home symbolized my own attempts at creating my own “home.” Finding myself and what makes me happy. Learning how to live in a different country and adapting to the culture as best as I could. Nothing brought me closer to feeling that this was “home” than football. I love everything about the sport and all the traditions that come with it. How it defines the remainder of the year, and how it shapes the way we spend our weekends. I just think it is great that I can tie my love for football with the fact that the USA is my new home and this ad/song cements that thought.

Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes is the perfect use of song by the NFL. The NFL finally comes “home”, although it technically never really left. The song itself is quite pop-rocky with catchy hooks (the whistling and the “la-la-la-la” bits in particular) and an infectious chorus. This song is best listened to reminiscing about your life and how far you have come since you started. Best of luck to everyone out there re-shaping their own ideas of “home” and I hope everyone finds theirs.
