Favorite Albums of 2012

Favorite Albums of the Year

Our last post of the year is the favorite albums list. Just like last year, I’ll present my list of favorite albums from the year before I jump on my flight back to Denver.

2012 was an impressive year for albums, in my opinion. Last year, I had 3 albums that I loved and a bunch of EPs I really enjoyed. This year, 2 albums separated themselves for me, but I could get lost in any album on this list and did.

I don’t have any desire or need to rank the list, but Lonesome Dreams by Lord Huron was my favorite album of the year. It was the album I spent the most time with and the one I would go back to as I weighed my decision. If you haven’t checked out the Daytrotter session that includes the title track and The Man Who Lives Forever among others, you may want to immediately. Overall, Lonesome Dreams captured 2012 better than any other album of the year, which is another reason I loved it.

The other album that warranted consideration was The Lumineers’s debut. Slow It Down is my favorite song of the year and Stubborn Love and Ho Hey The Lumineers was by far and away my favorite album for the first half of the year and I look forward to seeing them on New Year’s Eve.

The other albums on this list made it here through a variety of reasons. A lot of times, they matched the mood of the season. Some like The Lion’s Roar and Tramp were growers while others like Celebration Rock were instant loves for me. This marks the second year that My Head Is An Animal is on my favorite albums list, due to the late American release; I’m glad that they’ve become popular in the US. I don’t have any qualms with Passion Pit’s new direction (in fact, I prefer it) and Mumford and Sons delivered exactly what I wanted in their sophomore album (Holland Road is such an underrated track) and the brother sister duo from Texas, The Oh Hello’s, combine a number of current pop and Americana sounds that I hope more people listen to in 2013. I believe 2013 holds the unenviable position of following up the albums of 2012.

The list is below. Select songs from the albums are below the list and it’s just under an hour of playtime for the playlist.
