Congrats Grads!

Grads

As I sat in mid-80 degree weather in upstate New York this past weekend, watching my sister and brother-from-another-mother graduate from a classy higher education institution, one song came to mind: Tell Em by Sleigh Bells. I find it to be an ode to the grads.

Get ready for this explanation; I’m going all over the place with this one.

They say college is the best four years of your young life. So many memories made, friendships solidified, personalities grown, and experiences galore.

Does it really have to be that way?

Imagine waking up in panic because you overslept on the morning of your intense midterm. The only reason you overslept was because you fell asleep an hour prior whilst studying like the crazy person that you are. Adrenaline kicks in and you’re in speed mode getting ready to possibly sprint to make it to class in time for this ridiculous test. Got the picture in your mind? Good. That’s what the intro of this song reminds me of. (No worries though, you aced the midterm.)

And you know what’s good, like the kids in your neighborhood.

So you aced the test, now what? You celebrate with your best friends, who just so happen to live down the street from you, maybe across campus, over two houses, or possibly in your apartment.

Fast Forward: Did you do your best today?

Answer: yes, yes you did. How? You overcame obstacles, you used discretion (for the most part) with who you will keep in your life (potentially) forever, and you upgraded your book sense and street smarts.

I hope you cherished every moment of it. You can never get it back. You can never repeat it. You just graduated college.

Congrats to everyone who graduated college this Spring, and good luck with whatever comes next!
