Baths and Anamanaguchi: The Spectacle

Happy Monday, folks!

A while back DJ Echoes wrote a concert review for Baths and Braids. Since reading that post, Baths’s track Lovely Bloodflow has made a prominent appearance in numerous different playlists on my iPod. So when I heard he was coming to DC again to finish up his East Coast tour, I was more than ecstatic to see him play live.

I’ve been to my fair share of live shows and normally know what to expect. However, this time I had no clue what I was getting myself into, despite what I read in DJ Echoes’s review.

So there I was, at DC’s The Black Cat. As we got there, Anamanaguchi started playing. I’d never heard any of their music before but let me tell you, these chiptune indie rockers know how to make sure you have a good time. The quick stylings of these guys had us wanting more, but alas, their set was over.

Next up: Baths.

There was no beating around the bush or teasing the audience for a buildup of combinations of synths and snares to get us moving. Will Wiesenfeld went straight to what our ears, and hearts, were pining for. No long waits, no interruptions, just brilliant combinations of greatness, one after another.

Favorite tracks of the evening: Aminals, Hall, Maximalist—all of which are on his Cerulean album.

Three words to describe my experience – Best. Show. Ever.

So, thank you Baths and Anamanaguchi for setting ridiculously high standards for any other act I will ever see in the future. No seriously, thank you.

Until next Monday… catchya later tricks!
