I’ve been thinking about 2013 a lot recently. I guess it makes sense because it’s almost the new year. I thought I would share some thoughts, a recent favorite, and a prediction.
I’ll start with the prediction: I think 2013 will be the Year of the LA Bands. Lord Huron, HAIM, and Local Natives are all poised for big years. LA’s prominence in indie music and music at-large has faded a little (at least that’s my opinion; bands don’t feel the need to move there as much to make it). It’s the headquarters of the old guard of music and we’ve moved beyond it in some senses. In other senses, like the population, venues, and capital, LA is still an ideal breeding greed for some of the best new music. You can see that in the wealth of acts that are right there bubbling under the surface like PAPA.
I think PAPA is one of those LA acts who can have a big year. Been a big fan of A Good Woman Is Hard To Find EP and I unfortunately missed them in Denver in October. They’re playing a residency at the Bootleg Theater in Los Angeles in January. Check them out if you’re in Southern California.
Here’s I Am The Lion King (I’ve included the remixes and reworks as well, including St. Lucia’s), which is on the aforementioned EP released in 2011. Enjoy.
