The And Company is a three-piece experimental band from Boston. There must be something in the water up there (I guess I’ll find out soon because as I write this, I am on a bus to Boston). Everything about this band is creative, from the unusual rotation of instruments (from triangles to accordions) to the subtle hooks in the songwriting.
The track I chose is, in a way, their most straightforward. It builds up slowly from a guitar-picking ballad riff and then comes back down again. But it’s a good lead-in for them because it’s such a damn heart-breaker. We’ve all been in situations where we’ve bent over backwards for someone special–to the point where we end up holding the door for them on the way out. Musically and lyrically, this song is like the story arc of a relationship.
I ran into the band in DC last week as they were touring down the coast, so be sure to check out their Facebook page for dates.
