Wilco – I Might
I am being pouty today because Wilco is playing two shows in Central Park, literally blocks away from my apartment, and I am unable to attend. I’ve been attempting to remedy the sulk by listening to the band’s newest single, I Might. Hearing Jeff Tweedy sing, “it’s alright, it’s alright” has done little to comfort the sad Jess who’s stuck at home on a Friday night, but I guess I’ll get over it. (Ok, I will stop my First World Problems whine…now.)
I Might is Wilco’s first release off of their new album The Whole Love and the band’s first release of their label, dBpm Records (Decibels per minute). This track has a feel very reminiscent of some of the more upbeat songs off of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. It’s a pop song and Tweedy’s tones are accompanied by a xylophone, a bumping drum beat, and lyrics about, um, setting the kids on fire? OK, barring a few weird lyrics (and really, would it be Wilco without a few nonsensical lyrics here and there?), this is a pretty great single and has been getting heavy rotation on my playlist lately.
The band also recently performed on the David Letterman Show, and while there, did an entire set for the audience as part of the “Live on Letterman” webcast. They played a mixture of old and new stuff, but primarily focused on The Whole Love and Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. Check out their performance and enjoy a few of the new songs before the album drops this Tuesday.
